Annette Homann is a violinist, violist and composer. Born in Hanover, Germany, she stands out for being incredibly versatile in terms of musical styles. Her way of playing has been described as “sparkling, energetic, confident and joyful” (Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung).
She started playing at the age of 6 and initially started a classical path. After graduating from highschool she decided to become a professional violinist and started her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover and finished her Teaching Diploma at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz in 2004 where she studied with Professor Christoph Schickedanz. In 2005 she moved to New York City to study at Manhattan School of Music with Laurie Smukler. She received her Master of Music in violin performance in 2006. There she also took classes in jazz improvisation and composition. 2008-2011 she went on a world tour with the fiddle show Barrage playing about 200 shows a year. After she continued being an active freelance musician in NYC. Next to solo shows she performed also with ensembles such as the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra, the New England Symphonic Ensemble as well as theatrical
shows such as with choreographer Caron Eule as commissioned composer and incorporated dancing violinist.
Venues included Carnegie Hall as well Alice Tully and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. The cultural versatility and the life as a freelancing musician in NYC as well as the 3 years on tour gave her next to playing classical music a lot of experience in playing other styles such as Irish fiddling, bluegrass and jazz. In 2016 she moved back to Europe. She has been continuing as a freelance musician performing in various shows including playing with Michael Bublé, Howard Carpendale or Alex Christensen and the Berlin Orchestra. Venues include the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg or the Philharmonie Berlin. Other ensembles are
the Irish Duo HomeWard as well as the cabaret swing show “Anna und der Swing Klub”. In 2020 Mrs. Homann published the album “Violin Sentiments”, an album of original compositions for solo- and duo violin/viola. The style can be described as classical crossover. Mrs. Homann is also a dedicated instructor. Next to her private studio she has been teaching in various schools. 2016-2020 she was the violin instructor at the Al Farabi Music Academy under patronage of Daniel Barenboim. She currently resides in both Berlin and Brussels with her family.
I’ve always had a lot of fun playing and teaching music. I think it’s extremely important to expand and grow as a teacher and interpreter.
