The young Spanish-born professor has already served as guest at the music universities in Vienna (“Fritz Kreisler” Department), Cologne, Hamburg, Weimar (“Franz Liszt”), Würzburg, Nuremberg, and Münster, since his 2020 appointment as professor at Madrid Katarina-Gurska School of Music and the music university in his native Granada. His Andalusian students have become competitions prizewinners before being admitted internationally for further studies with mentors from the Berlin Philharmonic or concertmasters of the Gewandhaus Leipzig and Bavarian Radio. They are selected as concertmasters of German university orchestras, in Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and EUYO auditions, and already win fixed positions at German orchestras.
Educational Background: Juan Salvador Raya received his early training from Tamara Amirkhanian, teacher of star violinist María Dueñas. He subsequently studied with A. Wilczok (Staatskapelle Berlin) and Prof. U. Beetz at the Barenboim-Said Academy and the Franz Liszt University of Music, thanks to the mentoring of Prof. B. Erichson.
Artistic Career: Prof. Raya has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster with artists such as García Asensio, Sabine Meyer, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Alexander Vitlin, Miguel Colom, Gerhard Schulz, among others.
Pedagogical Vision: Prof. Raya is particularly interested in the technical training of young musicians and its connection to performance psychology. Prof. Zack, mentor of violinist Tobias Feldmann among others, wrote about his teaching methods: “I was impressed by the level and by the systematically well-founded and highly professional instruction of Mr. Raya.” His online coaching has been sought after, for example, by academists of German radio orchestras, alumni of "Hanns Eisler" Berlin and prizewinners of international competitions.
