Martin Wulfhorst, longtime associate concertmaster of the Hamburg Symphony, has recorded works by composers from Brahm's circle as well as contemporary American chamber music (Godwin, Silsbee) for Innova, Spectrum and Jambus. In addition to numerous editions and articles in interantional journals, he has published the first comprehensive introduction to orchestral playing, "The Orchestral Violinist's Companion," which also includes a large collection of orchestral excerpts. Currently Wulfhorst teaches orchestral studies at the HAmburg Conservatory (Hochschule für Musik und Theater). Further, he gives masterclasses and conducts workshops on auditioning and on preparing for an orchestral career at universities and conservatories in Germany and abroad. During his studies with Ernö Sebestyén at Universität der Künste Berlin he held a position in the first-violin section of Deutsche Oper. He completed his Master of Music at Brooklyn College, studying with Itzhak Perlman and Masao Kawasaki. Mr. Wulfhorst also holds a PhD in musicology from the City University of New York.
